Setting a Goal to Start a Business in 2015

As the New Year opens up, it’s a good time to look ahead and set a new path toward starting a business. Possibly the business of your dreams, maybe a business to build and pass along to your children, or even a business that will make the world a better place. Regardless of your reason for wanting to start a business in 2015, you’ll want to achieve the goal with the least of amount of friction and missteps. To do this, you’ll need to have a clearly defined plan and the guidance of experts.

First, determine why you want to start a business. The reasons can vary from very personal to altruistic. Is it to be your own boss, finally being able to make the decisions and earn what you’re worth? Or is it to build a foundation for equity and cash flow for your retirement or gifting? No matter what your reasons, you’ll have to have the reason or “why” in front of you at all times. This reason will be the anchor point to your search. As you head down the path, you’ll run across obstacles, hurdles. By returning to your reason, you’ll be able to push through. Without a strong reason, you’ll probably not make your goal.

Next, enlist the help of others. By getting an experts advice, you’ll avoid making mistakes, costing you time and money. Find someone you trust, by asking for referrals. You’ll want someone who is experienced in helping others start a business. Consider your local SCORE office or Small Business Development Center in your area. Also business brokers or franchise consultants can aid you if you’re looking to buy an existing business or a franchise. When getting help from other, you’ll need to make sure they know your reason for starting a business.

Make this year the one in which you start a business, know your reason and find help. Best to you in 2015
